Position Summary:
 
The Cost Accountant will play a critical role in analyzing costs for our landscaping projects, ensuring accurate billing, and providing financial insights to optimize our profitability. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with strong analytical skills and a background in cost accounting, ideally within the construction or service industries.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
    • Track and analyze all costs related to landscaping services, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead.
    • Allocate costs to specific projects and ensure accurate documentation in the accounting system.
    • Perform regular cost analysis to identify cost variances, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost optimization.
    • Provide detailed cost breakdowns and estimates for each landscaping project, ensuring that all direct and indirect costs are accounted for.
    • Work with project managers to evaluate project profitability and make necessary adjustments to project costing.
    • Ensure that all invoices are accurate, timely, and in line with project contracts.
    • Prepare and issue detailed invoices reflecting actual costs incurred for labor, materials, and other services.
    • Prepare monthly billing status and overall profitability.
    • Analyze variances between projected and actual costs.
    • Assist in preparing reports for management to help make informed business decisions regarding pricing, billing, and cost management.
    • Communicate regularly with project managers and other departments to ensure accurate cost allocations and billing information.
    • Provide support and training to other team members on cost tracking, billing procedures, and financial best practices.
    • Work closely with senior management to offer insights into cost-saving opportunities and ways to enhance profitability.

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in cost accounting or a similar role, ideally within the construction, landscaping, or service-based industries.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, costing methods, and billing processes.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., Acumatica, Sage, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Ability to think critically, identify issues, and propose actionable solutions.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and construction or service industry billing practices is a plus.

 

Benefits:

 

  • Full-time position, office-based with some flexibility for remote work.
  • Salary commensurate with experience:  $65,000 - $90,000
